World Countries
The number of independent countries in the world is fast approaching two hundred. Almost all of these countries are members of the United Nations, an international organization committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights. There are also many smaller regional organizations set up to promote close trading, security, economic or political alliances between members.
