Wildlife at risk
The earth hosts an amazing variety of plants and animals. Biodiversity refers to this variety of species, the genetic variability within each species, and the range of ecosystems and habitats in which they live.
But many of these species are under threat either from direct intervention by man or by loss of habitat. Many are vulnerable and threatened with extinction in the near future. Since the start of the 21st century extinct, or virtually extinct species include the Baiji Dolphin, the West African Black Rhino and the Golden Toad.
Careful regulation is required to limit human impact on the lives and future of these species.
